old mother I was unable to meet the van at the toilets.

“I’ve offered to take deliveries at any time on any day, but no. This leaves me with a 90-mile round trip to the nearest Tesco, which is very difficult because of my caring commitment to my mother.

“Is it because it’s Strathnaver, or is it because we don’t matter?” A spokesman for Tesco said Strathnaver was not in the catchment area for regular deliveries, but the store had helped out on occasions.

He added: “We have, by exception, tried to help out the customer and made some deliveries to the customer in Strathnaver, but this isn’t possible on a regular or ongoing basis.

“Hence we have been working with the customer to try to help a find a delivery option, including looking for addresses which are in our delivery catchment.”
