Plan­ners ap­prove 44 new homes

Plan­ners have ap­proved 44 new homes for Aviemore, as lo­cal en­vi­ron­men­tal­ists ex­pressed their mis­giv­ings about what it means for the fu­ture of de­vel­op­ment in the Cairn­gorms.

The Cairn­gorms Na­tional Park Au­thor­ity (CNPA) plan­ning com­mit­tee ap­proved two sep­a­rate ap­pli­ca­tions yes­ter­day morn­ing at its lat­est meet­ing in Nethy Bridge.

Cairn­gorm Prop­er­ties Ltd now has per­mis­sion to build 30 flats and eight ter­raced homes on a site to the north-west of Aviemore, while Al­byn Hous­ing So­ci­ety Lim­ited will build six af­ford­able homes at Dellmhor, be­side the Ski Road at In­ver­druie.

Af­ter the meet­ing a spokesman for Bade­noch and Strath­spey Con­ser­va­tion Group said: “This ap­proval sets the prece­dent for the first new hous­ing on the scenic south side of the ski road that is im­por­tant for land­scape and wildlife.

“These lat­est per­mis­sions add yet more pres­sure.”
