Child molester dies in prison

The Press and Journal (Moray) - - LOCAL NEWS -

A paedophile pensioner from Moray has died after being locked up for carrying out more than a decade of abuse.

Last March James Duncan was ordered to spend nearly three years in prison after admitting molesting three girls who were aged between six and 13.

The 75-year-old pleaded guilty to six charges of preying on the children at his home in Lossiemouth and at other addresses in Scotland.

He had been due to stand trial in Paisley, but admitted all the charges during a preliminary hearing.

Fiscal depute Scot Dignan said that his first attack happened in Lossiemouth around 1995 or 1996, when his victim was seven.

Duncan’s abuse only came to light in June 2014, after one of his victims had a child of her own and threatened to expose his actions.

Sheriff Robert Fife condemned Duncan’s “disgusting” and “despicable” offences as he imposed the 34-month jail term.

It has now been revealed, during a fatal accident inquiry, that Duncan died of multiple organ failure in January – less than a year into his sentence.

Duncan suffered from multi-organ failure and respiratory failure and died at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
