Homes set for hospital site

The Press and Journal (Moray) - - LOCAL NEWS -

The site of a former north-east hospital is set for a new lease of life.

Proposals to build 44 affordable homes and associated parking at the Campbell Hospital, Portsoy, have been given the go-ahead.

Councillors on the Banff and Buchan area committee gave the project planning permission yesterday. Sanctuary Housing Scotland is to build a mixture of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties.

Campbell Hospital closed in 2011 and was demolished two years later. Planning permission to build 22 new properties on the site was previously approved, but the application was withdrawn in July.

One objection was raised over the number of homes and road access.

Stephen Archer, Aberdeenshire council’s director of infrastructure services, stated: “The importance of the proposal in contributing to the provision of affordable housing in the rural housing market area and to address a specific local need is acknowledged.”
