Po­lice probe break-in

Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses fol­low­ing a house­break­ing at a prop­erty near Kem­nay.

The in­ci­dent took place be­tween 8pm on Tues­day and 6.30am on Wed­nes­day and re­sulted in the theft of a low four-fig­ure sum of cash.

The premises at Kem­nay Au­to­body at Kem­nay Road, In­verurie, were tar­geted and any­one who saw any­one act­ing in a sus­pi­cious man­ner should con­tact the po­lice.

De­tec­tive con­sta­ble Matt McCall said: “We ask any­one who saw any­thing un­usual or sus­pi­cious in the area be­tween the times given to con­tact us on 101.” Work­ers at Doun­reay nu­clear plant are to be bal­loted from to­day on whether to strike over a pay row.

Bal­lot pa­pers are be­ing is­sued to mem­bers of the three unions – Prospect, GMB and Unite – at the Caith­ness site, ask­ing them to sup­port a short strike fol­lowed by an over­time ban.

The unions are tak­ing the ac­tion af­ter months of ne­go­ti­a­tions with Doun­reay Site Restora­tion Ltd (DSRL), a con­sor­tium owned by Cavendish Nu­clear, CH2M and Ae­com, failed to reach a deal over pay. They had been seek­ing a 2.3% pay rise.
