Aberdeen and Hiber­nian are com­pet­ing to sign Not­ting­ham For­est for­ward Zach Clough.

The 23-year-old has been told by For­est boss Ai­tor Karanka that he is sur­plus to re­quire­ments at the English Cham­pi­onship side and can go out on loan.

Clough made a £3 mil­lion move from Bolton Wanderers to For­est last year.

The English­man scored 23 goals in 77 ap­pear­ances for Wanderers but net­ted only four times in 31 ap­pear­ances for For­est last term.

Clough, who is 5ft 7in, re­turned to Bolton on loan for the sec­ond half of the cam­paign, and net­ted once goal in nine games.

Aberdeen man­ager Derek McInnes has made no se­cret of his de­sire to bol­ster his at­tack after the de­par­ture of Adam Rooney to Sal­ford City. How­ever, the Dons face com­pe­ti­tion from Hibs, ac­cord­ing to re­ports from Eng­land.

Clough played un­der Hibs man­ager Neil Len­non dur­ing his time in charge of Bolton.
