Making Scotland ‘the best country’

The Press and Journal (North-East) - - Opinion -

SIR, – Further to your feature (P&J, January 11) it appears that our cash-hungry councils in Scotland are going to increase our taxes. This on top of ongoing cuts to services, and taxpayers already having to sustain the huge white elephant that is our devolved Scottish Parliament at Holyrood.

Surely the time has come to abolish our failing existing party political system of government. There has to be a better way of government for Scotland than this perpetual squandering of public money.

For the common good it’s time to create a non-party political system for our small country, where only people with integrity and common sense get elected.

Scotland would then truly become “The Best Small Country In The World”. George Emslie, Balgownie Gardens, Bridge Of Don
