Teenage boy, 16, fac­ing 22 charges

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with car­ry­ing out a spree of van­dal­ism in the north east.

The teenager is ac­cused of com­mit­ting 22 acts of mind­less de­struc­tion in less than a fort­night in Stone­haven and In­ver­bervie, prin­ci­pally tar­get­ing parked ve­hi­cles.

The youth is charged with van­dal­is­ing 11 cars parked in Stone­haven be­tween Wed­nes­day, April 19, and Sun­day, April 24. He is also ac­cused of dam­ag­ing nine ve­hi­cles in In­ver­bervie be­tween Sun­day, April 30, and Mon­day, May 1.

Con­sta­ble Kevin Ritchie spoke of the or­deal that the boy had put dozens of peo­ple through.

He said: “In­ci­dents of van­dal­ism can cause a great deal of anx­i­ety.”

The 16-year-old will be re­ported to the Youth Jus­tice Man­age­ment Unit.
