Increase in supply will add to glut
SIR, – It’s right to welcome Statoil’s find as “proof there is still life in the North Sea” (Press and Journal October 10). However, doesn’t it show the inadequacy of free market economics in getting a coherent energy policy?
Unless politicians put oil first then any increase in supply will add to the global glut. Perhaps the Scottish Government’s ban on fracking will become permanent to boost the North Sea. What is the policy for domestic heating and cooking given the Good House Keeping Institute’s advice?
The institute’s advice in January 2016 to anyone renewing domestic energy was “to go for electricity”. Ellis Thorpe, Old Chapel Walk,
