The Racing Paper - - News -

WHILE the future of the Irish Derby is assured there is concern in Northern Ireland for the Ulster Harp Derby won at Down Royal last Saturday by Jim Bolger’s Change of Velocity.

Fears were expressed on raceday about the plans of the course’s owners the Dublin based Merrion Property Group to evict the sitting tenants when the lease runs out at the end of 2018.

Merrion paid £6.1m for the racecourse in 2005 and have consistently denied local speculation that they intend to close the track and build on the site. But they do admit to ambitions to take over the day to day running of the racecourse.
