Rupert runs riot on landmark day

- ■ By NIGEL WALROND

RUPERT Freestone celebrated his 50th appearance for Plymouth Albion with two tries in this emphatic win.

Albion were dominant at scrum time, and they used their driving maul to good effect to set up a surprisingly comfortable victory over Park, who arrived in Devon ahead of them in the table.

Albion backs coach Kieran Hallett said: “We started well and then took our foot off the gas a little bit and had to defend for a long time in the first half.

“But in the second half we picked up our intensity, and to score 39 points and stop them from scoring a try was really satisfying.”

Park trailed 13-0 after 27 minutes, with fly-half Hallett kicking two penalties and converting a try by flanker Dan Williams, but they ended the half strongly, and after home centre Joe Simmonds was yellow carded, Darlington fly-half Caolan Ryan slotted a penalty for a 13-3 interval scoreline.

However, the second half was all about Albion, especially after Seta Raumakita’s converted try gave them some breathing space at 20-3.

Three tries in a fiveminute spell, with two of them from hooker Freestone including a stunning 70-metre run-in, and the other from winger Matt Crosscombe, wrapped up the bonuspoint.
