Wasps trio give Cov a killer sting

- ■ By JOHN WILKINSON

COVENTRY bounced back to winning form with a free-running, eight-try display against a Fylde side ultimately well beaten at their own game.

Both sides took an open approach but Cov proved to be more clinical with telling impacts from onloan Wasps trio Jack Willis, Tom Howe and Owain James on their debuts.

Fylde took an early lead through Chris Briers, Greg Smith adding the conversion, but Cov responded quickly with a try from short range for Willis before their scrum forced a penalty try which Will Maisey converted for a 127 lead 20 minutes in.

Cov went further ahead when James Stokes received the ball five metres inside his own half and outpaced the Fylde cover, which Maisey also converted.

Tom Burtonwood dived over for Fylde’s second try from a short line-out, Smith converting well, and the half ended with a penalty exchange between Maisey and Smith.

Howe raced over for Cov’s bonus-point try early in the second half before prop Andy Brown dummied his way over for their fifth to put them three scores clear. Further tries followed from Rob Knox, Willis and James with David Fairbrother pulling one back for Fylde.
