Sarries academy lads trade places to prepare for future

-

THERE is a great synergy between the core skills of professional rugby players and successful City traders and Divento Financials have teamed up with Saracens to give their Academy boys a look at life on the floor.

Sports clubs demonstrate a duty of care to their players by encouraging education and skills development to prepare them for life after sport, and the Premiership champions take it very seriously.

It is compulsory at Saracens for the young professional players to either be studying at a university for further education or to be doing one day a week of work experience in a relevant field which they’ll move onto after rugby.

Recently Sarries Academy boys in the first year of their professional contract attended a ‘Trader Experience Day’ at Divento’s training academy in Tower 42, in the heart of the City’s square mile. Players got to sample life on the trading floor as part of Divento’s Level 5 Advanced Diploma training course.

Seeing what traders do on a daily basis, the players were able to practise trading various products including those on the CME, using a tier one trading platform with real time prices through Trading Technologies.

Neil Crammond, one of Divento’s many experienced teachers, combines the role with his duties as Regional Director at

MyClubBetting – an organisation that focusses on giving back to grassroots sports teams using free, fully personalised websites.

Crammond said: “Around 90 per cent of the Premiership’s academy players do not make it professionally and therefore it is essential they have a second career. Divento 42 and Saracens combined, is a great opportunity for these young players to achieve their goals.”

As a company, Divento are driven by a desire to create opportunities for individuals through their employer led, work ready education programme. They aim to bridge the gap between education and obtaining sustainable employment within the financial services industry.

Recognising skills gaps within their own industry, Divento created a Level 5 Advanced Diploma in financial trading, which is fully accredited, and regulated by Ofqual, as a recognised global standard and benchmark of excellence. They are also a registered government agency for training.

Their diploma is a financial qualification aimed at 16+ learners, who wish to pursue a career as a financial trader, or a career within the financial sector.

The course is a full time, five-week programme, based within their live city trading floor, with a qualification level equivalent to a Higher National Diploma (HND), or first year foundation degree.

Throughout the course, learners develop their knowledge and understanding of trading the financial markets.

Saracens full-back Chris Wyles said: “Ultimately, more and more people are being made aware that professional athletes have an entire life after sport. The main thing is looking after people and their well-being after they’re done playing because, as we know, careers can end very quickly.”
