Taylor hails improved attitude as Richmond get first win

- By NICK VERDIER

DEFENDING champions Richmond recorded their first win of the season last Sunday with a narrow 15–10 victory over Wasps at the Athletic Ground.

With both teams without a win before kick-off, the game turned into a topsy-turvy thriller but Richmond prevailed with well-wroked tries from Alicia McComish, Alex Matthews and Emma Croker.

The points for the visitors came from an early try by Tina Veale and five points from the boot of Hannah Edwards.

Richmond head coach Brett Taylor said: “It’s been a hard start to the season for us but the attitude and improvement from the players has been outstanding.

“We’ve had 50 players at training, buying into ‘the Richmond way’ and that showed in our victory. I am very proud of the whole squad. It was a brilliant win.”

Lichfield maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 33-15 win over a muchimproved Aylesford side.

Two late tries at the end of the first half from Charlotte Pearce and No.8 Harriet Millar Mills had the hosts lead 18-10 at the break and they pulled away in the second half with Hannah Phillip, Katie Trevarthen and Becky Noon all going over.

Bianca Blackburn and Zoe Bennion both scored tries for Worcester who were also awarded a penalty try in their 19-5 win over Saracens at Allianz Park last Sunday.

Something will have to give at the top of the table today with Bristol and Lichfield putting their flawless records on the line at Cleve RFC.
