Blood & Sand are thwarted by Amps

- ■ By WARREN KAY

AMPTHILL spent the majority of this game defending as Cambridge dominated possession and territory, but unlike their opponents they took their chances to run out comfortable winners.

Sam Baker scored a try in the first minute and the last, with Maama Molitika, Aleki Lutui and Peter Weightman also crossing for the home side.

Cambridge will have some regrets, and scored two tries through James Ayrton and Oliver Petrides.

Baker got the ball rolling in the first minute finishing off a fine try featuring forwards and backs, but Cambridge hit back quickly through Ayrton.

Despite being under pressure, Ampthill were able to go in 21-7 ahead thanks to further scores from Molitika and Lutui thanks to their forward power.

Steffan Jones converted all three, and finished with a perfect five from five on a great afternoon for the fly-half.

Ampthill wrapped up the bonus point on 48 minutes with the pick of their tries, Weightman finishing off a great offloading move that went through countless hands.

Cambridge hit back with a second try through Petrides, a good effort of their own, but Ampthill finished in style through Baker’s second.
