League ace Harris back in Union

The Rugby Paper - - News - JON NEWCOMBE

IESTYN Harris is back in Rugby Union for the first time since he returned north to play for Bradford Bulls in 2004.

The former Wales fly-half has taken up a position as coaching consultant to Preston Grasshoppers who have just been relegated to the fifth tier of English rugby.

Harris will work alongside newly-appointed head coach Paul Arnold as ‘Hoppers attempt to bounce back after finishing bottom of Two North by a distance.

The 40-year-old’s media, after-dinner speaking and player management commitments will limit his involvement at Lightfoot Green to a bit-part role.

Harris won 25 Wales caps during his three-year stint in Union and appeared at the 2003 World Cup as well as playing for Cardiff.

He was linked with the assistant backs coach job at the Arms Park in 2013 but decided to stay in Rugby League with Wigan.

Harris left his assistant coach role at Wigan to join Salford in April 2014, but he lasted just over a year in the job before being frozen out.
