THE MACCLESFIELD HOOKER TAKES US THROUGH HIS PET HATES FROM THE RUGBY WORLD AND BEYOND

-

1. Poor lineout lifts/jumps

At Macclesfield we pride ourselves on our setpiece and lineout and in what has been a difficult season for the team overall, we feel that as a forward pack we’ve stood up to everyone and done a real job on some more established teams. However, with other teams I’ve been at over the years it does get annoying when one little thing goes wrong in the lineout – like a bad lift or jump – and it messes up the whole thing. Us hookers take the brunt of the blame from people outside of the team who may not realise how many different components go into making a lineout function properly. It would be nice to just concentrate on my job – throwing in – rather than worrying about everyone else getting theirs right. TRP VERDICT: We’d love to get this in by hook or by crook, but it’s just not happening.

2. Poor time-keeping

I hate being late myself and get annoyed by those who don’t have the same attitude to good time-keeping. I’m not as bad as someone like Tom Mantell, who takes it to the extreme and arrives an hour early, but I’d still rather have that than waiting for another of my team-mates, Frankie Barker, who always delays our departure on away trips. TRP VERDICT: Head straight into Room 101 without any unnecessary delay.

3. Loud eaters

I’m a joiner by trade and quite often I’m surrounded by other people at lunch breaks. It puts me right off my food when I hear someone slurp their drink or chew loudly. If I know them well enough, I tell them to pack it in. TRP VERDICT: That really sucks, you’ve every right to be gobsmacked.
