Bar­rett helps Dale break home duck

WHARFEDALE just edged this hard-fought and en­ter­tain­ing match to win their first home game of the sea­son – Tom Bar­rett slot­ting two cru­cial late penal­ties.

South Le­ices­ter took an early lead with a penalty and a drop goal from Rickie Aley. Bar­rett put Dale on the score­board with a penalty be­fore forced a turnover in the vis­i­tors’ half was worked left to Oliver Cicognini. The Wharfedale winger had a lot of work to do but a com­bi­na­tion of strength and speed took him to the line for an un­con­verted try.

The South Le­ices­ter for­wards then drove over for an un­con­verted try, awarded to Daniel Ire­land, to re­take the lead.

Back came Wharfedale and good work from Kieran Frost set up Cicognini for his sec­ond. Bar­rett’s con­ver­sion took the score to 15-11 to the home side.

South Le­ices­ter were back in front by half-time when Ire­land in­ter­cepted a pass on half­way to run un­der the posts. Aley slot­ted the ex­tras.

The Dale for­wards then set up Adam Howard at the start of the sec­ond half for a con­verted try.

South hit back, Pa­trick Marks cross­ing and Aley’s con­ver­sion took the score to 25-22 to the vis­i­tors.

How­ever, two penal­ties from Bar­rett were enough for Wharfedale.
