We had bottle to win it says Dai

WASPS director of rugby Dai Young said he felt his side always had the win in them.

“There was not much between the teams, but I was pleased we had the bottle to keep going, and the quality to win.”

Young mentioned manof-the match No.8 Nizaam Carr in despatches as well as returnees Danny Cipriani and Elliot Daly.

He said: “Nizaam brings physicality, work rate, and the ability to get his hands on the ball and get it away in contact, and he makes heavy-foot carries. He’s a quality player. Danny is one of the best attacking tens – he’s worked his socks off to get back a month early – and Elliot will never disappoint if you put him in space.”

His Leicester counterpart Matt O’Connor said: “They ripped into each other, it was pretty tight. They executed, they looked after the ball and ultimately got the last score.”

O’Connor said of the fifth loss to Wasps on the bounce: “You can flip a coin on the results I’ve been around for – and you can bet on a few bruises in the Wasps changing room physically and mentally.”
