High wind denies last-gasp winner
A TITANIC battle in Oxfordshire ended all square, despite Rosslyn Park battering away at the Chinnor line deep into injury time.
A crossfield kick was gathered by Nev Edwards who evaded the defence to level the scores. Greg Lound, who had been perfect from the tee all afternoon had the final kick to seal the win. His cry of joy as he kicked indicated he was confident it was sailing over but the wind caused the kick to fall short.
It was looking ominous for Chinnor when the London side took an early lead through Mike McFarlane. Lound converted and the lead was doubled when Lound spotted a gap and stepped through to score.
Chinnor registered with a Caolan Ryan penalty. However, he Ryan had to leave the field with a nasty-looking injury.
Craig Holland converted a penalty to narrow the score to 6-14. Will Bordill then stormed and Holland converted. Park struck back with two penalties before a driving maul led to a try, converted by Lound. Chinnor restarted with a bang, with Holland scoring a penalty, try and conversion. Ben Thomas extended the lead and Holland converted before adding a penalty.
Adam Frampton responded before Park’s dramatic finish.
