Love was is the air as a member of Filey lifeboat crew and his wife renewed their wedding vows in style.

Steve and Alison Terry, who have been married for 27 years, were the toast of the town as family and friends gathered on the beach for the special occasion.

The service was carried out by David Garnett, vicar for Filey, and happened on Saturday after a routine lifeboat exercise.

Crew member Steve, 52, said: “We launched both boats at 9am from Filey beach and had an exercise for about an hour and a half.

“We popped open a bottle of champagne at Bell Buoy in Filey Bay and then returned to the beach to be recovered.

“We were pulled ashore by the tractor to a large crowd of about 100 guests of friends and family.”

The vicar climbed aboard once the lifeboat was ashore and Alison, 46, changed out of her safety boots and put on her present of Christian Louboutin shoes.

Steve added: “We had a short service with music where we exchanged our vows. Afterwards the crowd clapped and cheered.

“We climbed down and received good wishes, back patting, kisses and handshakes. The boat was recovered back to the boathouse and made ready to relaunch.

“Our families and friends then retired to the side of the boathouse for Champagne and bacon rolls.

“The weather was absolutely glorious. We had an evening function at Filey Sports and Social Club, Clarence Drive, where we danced the night away.”

Filey Lifeboat Weekend will take place on Saturday July 30 and Sunday July 31.

The annual raft race this year will take place on the Saturday afternoon from about 1.30pm and teams are encouraged to enter.

There will also be a static display by the White Rose Goldwings Motorcycle group who will also run a tombola at the boathouse on Coble Landing. Lifeboat souvenirs will be on sale as well as second-hand books. There will also be an exhibition of trial bikes.
