LIGHTING OFFENCES

At Norton before Sir James D Legard, KCB, Alderman R Metcalfe, Mr EW Tindall, Mr H Wrigley, and Mr Thomas Barker. John Stones, shopkeeper, Sherburn, was fined 10s for failing to shade a light in his shop window on January 16th. John Myers, Ganton, was also fined 10s for a similar offence on January 20th.

The defendant was dismissed with a caution.

GF Hutton, West Heslerton, a temporary postman, was also summoned for a lighting offence at Heslerton. Defendant denied the offence, and stated that he only had a candle light in the stable, and no bright light could be seen outside.

The bench imposed a fine of 10s.
