Bridlington had a frustrating night in the Indoor Tennis Centre Division One as they had to concede against Rudston due to lack of players available.

This was very unfortunate given that Brid are one of the strongest teams in the league and a match for anyone on the night.

The other top flight match that was played saw Hackness take on Scarborough B. Hackness were at full strength with the return of captain Adam Tildsley and Martin Glassett.

These two split up with Tildsley partnering Jon Conyers and Glassett playing with Henry Tucker.

These pairs had a relatively comfortable win against the younger and less experienced Scarborough side, taking all four rubbers. For Scarborough, Graham Holt partnered Josh Robinson and Marcus Brown teamed up with Tom Hunt. These latter three are all under 18 and are gaining in experience and skill all the time and should be the bedrock of the club for years to come.

The first of the Division Two matches was between Scarborough E and Scalby.

With both teams putting out very strong pairs it was always going to be a hardfought contest. Scarborough had the excellent pair of father and son Graeme and Lleyton Scott, who are unbeaten in this league and stayed this way taking their two rubbers. Jim Coppack and Ashley Rawlings were their team’s second pair and they too had a good night taking the important one rubber to secure the 3-1 win for Scarborough.

But Scalby played their part in this match which was a credit to both sides, Jackie Speakman partnered Richard Stacey and Kevin Wood partnered Matt Thundercliffe.

The final match of the evening saw Rudston 2 play Bridlington 2.

This was another fine match that ended in a 2-2 draw. Both teams fielded lady players which was good to see and all players aquitted themselves very well.

For Bridlington Fran Critchley partnered Keren Miller and John Ashton played with Mike Fell. Rudston’s Jane Crossley and Ian Reed teamed up as did Peter Crossley and Mike Fell.
