Team celebrates area’s positives
Totally Socially promotes the good in communities
A lottery-funded project is gearing up to celebrate the positives in communities in Scarborough and tackle some of the negatives.
Three new faces will join Coast and Vale Community Action’s Totally Socially team on 6 March as the Big Lottery-funded project gathers steam.
It will seek to work with people in Scarborough, Whitby, Filey and Ryedale.
Charlotte Angus, Phillip Coyne and Jo Oliver will join David Stone in developing links with local individuals and groups and getting new activities going based on what people know is needed.
Mel Bonney-Kane, Chief Executive of Coast and Vale Community Action, said: “We are very pleased to have recruited some great people to help us deliver this project. They bring with them a wealth of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm.
“Most importantly, they are passionate about bringing about positive change in the communities they will work in.”
Totally Socially is already planning its annual Long Weekend of events which will run from Friday 7 July to Monday 10 July. It will include a business networking breakfast with a difference at Yay Coffee, a Garden Party at the Street, a free community open day at Scarborough Castle and a conference at The Street featuring Incredible Edible, Social Enterprise UK and others.
David Stone said: “The Long Weekend has become a real fixture in our calendar now.
“It’s wonderful to have the boost of extra team members. We want as many different individuals and groups to be involved as possible and we are always open to new ideas for things we should be doing.”
Coast and Vale Community Action has succeeded in securing an award from the Big Lottery’s Reaching Communities fund to support positive activities in local neighbourhoods.
The funding will support a three-year programme called Totally Socially that builds on the success of the Totally Socially events held annually in Scarborough since 2014.
