35 YEARS AND GOING STRONG
The Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavaliers was established on 10 May 1978 and celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2013. The club is dual membership with almost 40 male and female members meeting every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in the Function Room of the Downe Arms Country House Inn. This year the club’s main fund-raising activities included Dragon Boat Racing at Wykeham Lakes on June 11 and the annual Community Fair in August. Wildlife and aviation photographer Andy Rouse will be the guest speaker at the Mick Carroll Memorial Event at Scarborough Rugby Club tonight.
Mr Rouse will give a talk on his career as a wildlife photographer and showcasing his work.
The event will raise funds for patient care at Saint Catherine’s in memory of Mick Carroll who was a well-known local birdwatcher and passionate about wildlife conservation, particularly protection of birds of prey from persecution and habitat destruction. He passed away from pancreatic cancer on 21 October 2015, and was nursed at Saint Catherine’s for the final weeks of his life.
Event organiser Ian Glaves said ‘‘Anyone with an interest in wildlife, aviation, and photography will find this a superb night. Andy is a very amusing and animated speaker, and his images are always brilliant.’’
Tickets at £15 are available at www.billetto.co.uk/ the-mick-carroll-memorialeventor, and cost £17.50 on the door.
