WI meeting

-

A flower arranging demonstration by Jo Purdy from Hearts and Flowers was the highlight of the February meeting of Seamer and Irton WI. Jo produced several lovely arrangements which were later used as raffle prizes.

New president, Jan Braidley, welcomed members and a visitor and said that everyone had enjoyed the annual dinner at the Copper Horse.

Eileen Burn will be our delegate at the spring council meeting at Scarborough Spa on March 29 from 10.30am. The speaker is from the History Wardrobe and tickets are £10.

Instead of a cup of tea, members enjoyed wine and cake to celebrate the diamond wedding anniversary of Jean Dixon who has been a member of Seamer and Irton WI for about 70 years. She was presented with a card and a rose bush.

The Derwent Valley spring group meeting on April 27 is an evening with Ken Allanson, more details next month. The next social coffee is on February 28 at Mad Hatties on Scalby Road at 10.30am and the craft group will meet on March 8 in the Memorial Hall at 2pm. All are welcome to attend.

The lucky winners of the flowers were Joyce Needham, Julie Stephenson, Eileen Burn, Sue Buck and Sheena O’Connell and the competition for a small foliage arrangement was won by Julie Oldfield.

The next meeting is in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm on March 15 when the speaker will be from Croft Chocolates and the competition is for a small hand decorated box.
