Gage and Coyne hit two as Town extend lead
Joe Gage and Billy Coyne hit two goals apiece as Filey Town Reserves beat West Pier Reserves 4-1 to edge further clear at the top of Division Two.
Town were 2-0 up inside five minutes, but Rich Tolliday’s goal handed Pier hope at 2-1 heading into the break.
Two Filey goals after the break sealed the three points for the leaders, who have now won 11 and drawn one of their 13 league outings this season, with just one defeat.
Tom Haxby was Filey’s man of the match, while Jamie Jordan and new signing Jack Brown impressed for Pier.
Newlands Reserves beat Seamer Reserves 5-1 to dent their opponents’ hopes of mounting a title challenge.
Park led 4-0 at the break as Ben Luntley fired in a brace, sandwiched by strikes from Matthew Griffiths and Stew Bates.
Tom Adams gave Seamer hope after the break as he made it 4-1, but Brad Rowley fired in Newlands’ fifth and final goal to seal a 5-1 win.
Dan Hitchcock was Newlands’ star man at right-back.
Gary Hepples smashed in a hat-trick to fire Edgehill Reserves to a 4-3 win at Duchess,
keeping them second. Andrew Noon opened the scoring inside 30 seconds before Duchess battled back into the contest, Hepples hitting two to make it 3-2 at the break.
Hepples grabbed a third after the break to seal the points for title-chasing Edgehill, for whom wing-back Steven Whittaker shared the man of the match honours with hattrick hero Hepples.
Scalby’s Rob Speight took his goals tally for the season to 34 as he smashed in four to fire the Otters to a 9-3 derby-day victory against FC Rosette.
Speight’s four goals were added to by two from Ashley Townley and strikes from Simon Rigg and Aidan Thomas.
Makeshift centre-back Shaun Scales shared man of the match with Speight.
Goalsports cruised to a 4-0 win at Falsgrave.
Joe Mills headed in from Tom Hudson’s cross to make it 1-0 before player-boss Mark Plumpton floated in a freekick from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 at half-time.
Mike Beeby scored a superb goal as he turned his man before guiding a fine finish past the keeper to make it 3-0, before a Mike Grayshan penalty rounded things off at 4-0.
Falsgrave were reduced to 10 men when Nathan Patterson was sent off for using foul and abusive language towards referee Kev Crick.
Midfielder Sam Pallant was Goalsports’ star man. Cayton Reserves’ miserable season continued as they failed to raise a side for their game at home to Snainton.
It was to be their final scheduled fixture as they quit the league shortly afterwards (see page 89 for more). Itis Itis Rovers closed the gap at the top of Division Three as they battered Commercial 8-1 and leaders Sherburn were held to a 2-2 draw at Goalsports Reserves. Man of the match Neil Forsyth and Curtis Rose grabbed a hat-trick each to set Rovers on their way as they led 4-0 at the break and continued their dominance after half-time.
Liam Buglass and Dave Young wrapped up the scoring for Mikey Barker’s side.
Commercial hit a bizarre consolation as they missed a penalty, before two shots on the follow-up were saved by Jordan Lee.
A third effort came in and beat Lee, only for Buglass to handle on the line.
The referee issued a red card to Buglass and gave another penalty, that Macauley Youngson dispatched.
Sherburn were left frustrated by struggling Goalsports Reserves as the sides drew 2-2 at Kilham.
Paul Oldroyd’s brace for Andy Thorpe’s hosts sealed a point, despite Matt Whitehall and Paul Mills finding the back of the net for title-chasing Sherburn.
Keeper Joe Leslie was Goalsports’ man of the match.
Rovers’ cause was helped further as Edgehill 3rds’ home game against Eastway was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Another shock result came as Ayton produced a clinical display to beat Fishburn
Park Reserves 3-1. Chris Reddish scored the only goal of the first half to hand Ayton the advantage at the break, before he grabbed his side’s second after the interval, with Fishburn left frustrated as their appeals for handball were ignored.
Marc Usher tapped in to give the hosts hope at 2-1, but Tyler Beck grabbed a third just a minute later to kill off any hopes of a comeback. Seamer Reserves edged to a 4-3 win at home to Scalby Reserves.
Jamie Cornish raced clear of the Otters’ rearguard to open the scoring, but Scalby levelled as Danny Gregory’s shot came back off the post and Taylor Jordan reacted quickest to tap in.
Seamer ended the half on top though, an own goal by Karl Hansell and Ollie Parker’s effort into the top corner after showing great composure made it 3-1 to the hosts.
An injury left Scalby reduced to 10 men after 55 minutes, but that didn’t deter them as Graeme Farrah raced onto a through-ball and benefitted from a deflection with the keeper before tapping into an empty net.
Farrah then had the chance to level the score after Hansell won a penalty, but his tame penalty was saved by Tom Poor and Gregory skewed the rebound wide of the mark.
Seamer then grabbed a fourth to seemingly kill the game off as Carl Stephenson found the bottom corner, but the 10 men came roaring back again and Gregory found the bottom corner to make it 4-3 with six minutes left.
The hosts managed to hold out, despite vociferous claims for a hand ball in the last minute waved away by the referee.
Adam Stockell was Seamer’s man of the match, while Parker also stood out. Dan Wedge impressed for a depleted Scalby side at left-back and then at centre-back. Hunmanby United Reserves failed to raise a side for their game at Goldsbrorough United.
