A Scarborough building firm has gone into liquidation leaving £1.2million of debt to fellow businesses behind. GHK Design & Build Ltd has been wound up by liquidators after racking up an enormous £1,287,524.01 in costs.

The firm, which had an office on Falsgrave Road, specialised in the construction of domestic buildings but 26 Scarborough businesses have been left out of pocket.

AS Roofing Specialists, based on Queen Margarets Industrial Estate, is the worse affected business in the town with £119,089 being owed to them by GHK Design & Build.

Other businesses in Scar- borough which have not received their cash back include JM Engineering (£30,063), SWC Trade Frames (£30,124) and Exley Smith Electrical (£40,365).

Firms further afield have also been affected including A Brunton, Bridlington (£43,842), MKM Building Supplies, Hull, which does have a branch off Seamer Road, (£251,953 ) and Sky Scaffolding in Whitby (£34,880).

According to Companies House, Gary and Kerry Hill were both active directors of GHK Design & Build when the firm was set up in April 2014.

They both remained in charge until a liquidator was appointed on January 10 due to their long list of debts.

Neither were reachable to be contacted for a comment on the story.

The other companies declined to comment.
