-

The Plough in Scalby has been busy with friends processing the adoption of the BT-owned red phone box and planning to make it a lifesaving feature of the village.

After finding the kiosk removal notice given by BT on a Twitter post in aid of saving the local phone box, The Plough Team were quickly on with helping the community.

The Plough looked into the process of adopting the box and researched how other villages had transformed

Scarborough-based entrepreneur Nick Thomas, who owns the restaurant with his wife Sandra, went on to contact ‘Adopt a Payphone Scheme’.

The Plough and their fellow ‘Save Scalby Phone Box’ supporters gained a great following in their cause locally and nationally.

Mel Bonney-Kane Chief Executive Officer at Coast and Vale Community Action received the exciting email from BT confirming the successful adoption of the phone box Tuesday February 14, meaning the process of restoring the red box and making a home for a new community defibrillator can begin.

The Plough and Coast Vale Community Action will be posting updates of the progress and donation boxes will be housed in The Plough and The Yew Tree, Scalby to help with the upkeep of the iconic phone box.
