My musical career

-

Tim Tubbs gave a lucid and entertaining account to 39 Scarborough Probus Club members of his musical career.

The son of the Rev Chris Tubbs, Tim’s early memories were of early piano lessons at Bramcote. In the early 1970s he won a scholarship for six years to Ripon Choir School. His focus then shifted back to Scarborough and two musicals in particular - The Boy Friend and Annie Get Your Gun.

At Worcester College, Oxford, he introduced musicals with Cabaret and through Oxford’s proximity to London he was able to make the move into stage management at Sadler’s Wells. His reminiscences of Lionel Bart were both insightful and humorous.

He founded the Marylebone Dance Studio, which he still organises from a laptop in Scarborough. He describes his decision to return to Scarborough in 2008 as the best move he has made.

In particular, the closing of the gap between professional and amateur theatre is something he enjoys and he gave a glowing account of Woodend, Scarborough’s creative industry studio complex. With the Sandside Players, he is looking forward to putting on Ruddigore in September.

The next meeting on April 4 is the annual meeting after John Fawcett’s presentation.
