Heslerton Under-15s seal win

The Scarborough Evening News - - SPORTS AGENDA -

Heslerton Under-15s made their debut in the York Minor League on Thursday with a win against Stamford Bridge.

The home side scored in the first minute when Ollie Stanton crossed for Roman Butterfield to volley home.

Stamford clawed one back with a penalty before taking the lead from a corner kick.

The second half saw the Blues equalise when Morgan Kendrew danced into the box and fired low past the keeper.

Heslerton piled on the pressure and with 10 minutes remaining midfielder Jamie Atkinson hit a peach of a shot from 25 yards that sailed into the top corner.

Man of the match for Heslerton was Finlay May, his best performance to date. Heslerton’s new Under-14s team put in a barnstorming display against a well-drilled Old Malton side but fell to a 3-1 defeat.

In their first match together Heslerton gelled quickly, with new faces Sam Farkas and Dylan Fawcett flying into their tackles.

Stung by conceding a goal, Oli Lahiff created the equaliser with a chipped throughball, which allowed Jayden Isaac to finish calmly past the keeper.

The introduction of Ben Peckitt and Charlie Richardson added fresh energy, the latter working a couple of openings down the wing, though Old Malton struck back with chances of their own.

Despite heroic central defensive performances by Ihsan Eroglu and man of the match Tom Owen, it was the home side who eventually ground out the win.
