Discovery attraction for Filey unveiled
Grand vision for Filey Country Park to be unveiled at meeting at Evron Centre
Plans for a Discovery Centre for Filey have been unveiled, with members of the public invited to see the designs.
People in Filey are being invited to have their say on ambitious plans for a Discovery Centre in the town.
The Discover Filey Development Trust (DFTT) is also renovating Filey Country Park and needs public support as it looks to make bids for funding to move the projects forward.
A meeting will be held at The Evron Centre at 7pm on Monday November 13 and all are invited to go along to see the plans.
The development trust is now working closely with Scarborough Borough Council to facilitate the next stage of the project, the provision of a permanent heritage, educational and visitor centre on Filey’s Country Park.
In its development brief it states: “DFDT has a vision for an all weather, all season building in Filey’s Country Park.
“A centre of excellence, which will reconnect communities with our heritage and environment.
“The proposed centre will be a place to bring family and relatives; a centre for heritage and cultural activities, the arts, astronomy, history and nature; a support hub for local and long distance walkers, sailing, kayaking and cycling.
“A workshop and retail space for artists and designers and a platform for community local creatives.
“We are looking to provide a cost-effective, shared retail and development space for new and established artisans to display and sell their work in a retail environment without the usual overheads incurred by small businesses.
“A resource for outdoor markets, training, community safety days and other events.
“A place to nurture a developing nature tourism industry which is independent of season.
“A schools resource and field studies centre.
“A catalyst for further changes to develop training and attract business entrepreneurs to the area.” All are welcome to attend the public meeting.
