The Coble Landing, Filey, tomorrow hosts free family festive entertainment, including the choir, Santa and carols.

There’s a great festive lineup in store at the first ever Filey Fishing Christmas Tree Switch-on Event, being held on Coble Landing Filey between 6pm and 7pm tomorrow night.

Filey’s Town Mayor will be opening the evening, followed by a performance by Filey Junior School Choir.

There’ll then be a chance to spot Santa’s sleigh and give him a wave, while Filey Fishermen’s Choir sing some Christmas favourites on the build-up to the big countdown to the switch-on.

After the lights go on, there will be more singing from the Fishermen’s Choir.

Filey Show Group will round off the evening with fun performances, including a song especially written for the occasion.

The businesses on Coble Landing will also be staying open until late, with food and drink available.

There’ll be plenty of time to admire the tree itself, which will be standing approximately 25 feet tall. It will be illuminated every day from December 1 to the first week of January and, at night, will be visible for miles along Filey Bay.

Close-up, visitors will be able to see how it’s made of all things fishy, as it’s designed to celebrate Filey’s fishing heritage.

There will be donation boxes by the tree, with proceeds going towards next year’s tree and local youth organisations.

Keep an eye out around Filey for the posters advertising the switch-on. They were designed by children from Filey Junior School with the top three posters being picked out by representatives from the Filey Fishing Tree Planning Team, Filey Tourism Association and Deputy Mayor Councillor John Casey.

The winners have been awarded their prizes in school. The children are also getting arty and creating colourful fish bunting, which will be placed around the tree.

‘The tree construction is well under way’ Mike Cockerill Councillor
