Candle-lit event raises £17,000
A marquee lit with 300 candles with red carpet and arbours sparkling with fairy lights was the backdrop at Scarborough’s Wrea Head Hall Hotel for a Champagne gala fund-raiser that raised more than £17,000 to two charities. More than 100 guests attended the blacktie banquet and auction organised by Anne Hodgson and Peeter Ashton who wanted to raise funds into research for myeloma and breast/brain cancers in memory of their spouses, Martin and Win who died at 49 and 52. Anne, general manager of the Wrea Head Hall Hotel, said: “It was a fabulous evening. We would like to thank all of those who attended for their generosity and kindness. It surpassed our wildest expectations.” Inset picture: Wrea Head Hall owners Mark Giles and Gerry Aburrow, with Aimée Hodgson.
