King­fish­ers stars shine at county events

King­fish­ers Swim­ming Club achieved a fan­tas­tic level of rep­re­sen­ta­tion and some great swims at the pres­ti­gious

York­shire Swim­ming Cham­pi­onships. The Cham­pi­onships, held over four week­ends at Ponds Forge Sh­effield and the John Charles Aquatic Cen­tre in Leeds, is one of the swim­ming cal­en­dar’s top an­nual events.

This year King­fish­ers had 13 swim­mers qual­i­fied be­tween the ages of nine and 18, swim­ming in 44 events.

Rep­re­sent­ing King­fish­ers were Thomas Eblet (11), David Hope (10), Michael Hope (11), Wil­liam As­cough (11), Corey Tite (11), Joseph Ben­son (11), Aaron Gil­son (18), El­iza Ham­mond (11), Caitlin Sykes (12), Iso­bel Vasey (11).

Holly Franklin (14), Mar­cus Moore (14) and Annabel Reynold­son (11) qual­i­fied but were un­able to at­tend.

Twenty-five per­sonal best times were achieved by the swim­mers, six fi­nals reached with the high­light be­ing a sec­ond place sil­ver medal in the 50m breas­troke.

King­fish­ers mem­bers who were not able to at­tend the York­shire Cham­pi­onships at­tended the Nep­tune Cen­tre to

swim in the Middlesbrough ASC 2018 AA Gala.

Rep­re­sent­ing King­fish­ers were Ali­cia Walls (10), Ellie Yau (10), Emily McArthur (9), Ge­or­gia Wood (13), Grace Fox (11), Izzy Vasey (11), Lucy Milburn (10), Madeleine Adams (14) and So­phie Waller (11).

Thirty-one PB times were achieved from a to­tal of 44 swims and this rep­re­sented a fan­tas­tic 70% im­prove­ment on pre-race per­sonal best times.

A club spokesper­son said: “Thank you to coaches Jon Cheshire, Kev Hope and all the pool­side sup­port team for their con­tin­ued com­mit­ment and sup­port in help­ing our swim­mers achiev­ing these high stan­dards.”
