Kingfishers stars shine at county events
Kingfishers Swimming Club achieved a fantastic level of representation and some great swims at the prestigious
Yorkshire Swimming Championships. The Championships, held over four weekends at Ponds Forge Sheffield and the John Charles Aquatic Centre in Leeds, is one of the swimming calendar’s top annual events.
This year Kingfishers had 13 swimmers qualified between the ages of nine and 18, swimming in 44 events.
Representing Kingfishers were Thomas Eblet (11), David Hope (10), Michael Hope (11), William Ascough (11), Corey Tite (11), Joseph Benson (11), Aaron Gilson (18), Eliza Hammond (11), Caitlin Sykes (12), Isobel Vasey (11).
Holly Franklin (14), Marcus Moore (14) and Annabel Reynoldson (11) qualified but were unable to attend.
Twenty-five personal best times were achieved by the swimmers, six finals reached with the highlight being a second place silver medal in the 50m breastroke.
Kingfishers members who were not able to attend the Yorkshire Championships attended the Neptune Centre to
swim in the Middlesbrough ASC 2018 AA Gala.
Representing Kingfishers were Alicia Walls (10), Ellie Yau (10), Emily McArthur (9), Georgia Wood (13), Grace Fox (11), Izzy Vasey (11), Lucy Milburn (10), Madeleine Adams (14) and Sophie Waller (11).
Thirty-one PB times were achieved from a total of 44 swims and this represented a fantastic 70% improvement on pre-race personal best times.
A club spokesperson said: “Thank you to coaches Jon Cheshire, Kev Hope and all the poolside support team for their continued commitment and support in helping our swimmers achieving these high standards.”
