Dear Reader Shops and shopping are very much in the news; not least in our pages!
Our Love Your High Street campaign is gathering momentum as Christmas approaches, with, this week, traders in Bar Street outlining why you shouldn’t just go online, but think about spending locally, in the array of shops in Scarborough and this area. Their efforts are invaluable for the future of the town centre. Our town has some great shops, big and small, and some great people working hard in them – not least Trevor Wharton, who is closing his Ramshill Road shop after an amazing 40 years. Trevor has matched and beaten some of the bigger national carpet stores, and is a perfect example of a local trader whose experience, customer service and friendly welcome are worth the trip out of your front door. Talking of businesses, it’s nearly time to celebrate the variety we have at the coast’s top business awards – the shortlist and ticket details are on page 15. Steve Bambridge Deputy Editor
