Aus­tralians ready for Games af­ter nam­ing 52 swim­mers

SEvEN-tIME Com­mon­wealth Games gold medal­list Leisel Jones will lead a 52-strong Aus­tralian swim­ming team for Oc­to­ber’s Games in Delhi.

Jones, come­back sen­sa­tion Geoff Huegill and sprint spe­cial­ist Ea­mon Sul­li­van will join 31 Com­mon­wealth Games debu­tants in the squad, in­clud­ing Emily See­bohm, who won gold in the 200m in­di­vid­ual medley at last month’s Pan-Pa­cific Cham­pi­onships in Cal­i­for­nia.

Melissa Gor­man, Grace Loh, James Mag­nussen, Ken­rick Monk, Mitchell Pat­ter­son, Kyle Richardson and tessa Wal­lace have also been in­cluded in the squad fol­low­ing com­mend­able per­for­mances at the same Cham­pi­onships.

Queens­land pair Jay­den Hadler and Yolane Kukla will be the youngest male and fe­male swim­mers on the team at 16 and 15 years of age re­spec­tively.

Swim­ming Aus­tralia head coach Leigh Nugent ex­plained that the team is ea­gerly await­ing the Games. “Aus­tralia has a fan­tas­tic tra­di­tion at the Com­mon­wealth Games and this is a strong team,” he said.
