cOMEdy THE REAl MAcguFFins Pleasance courtyard (Venue 33) HHHHH

The Scotsman - - Fringereviews Hotshow -

One MacGuffin sold the Old Vic for peggy, one played noah Claypole in Oliver!, and one has the face of a cat. poor Matt has all of his “voices” dissed, is ordered around like a servant and has an ongoing disagreement with the other two about the importance of celebrity names in sketches. And punchlines. this is a funny hour that rolls along with face-licking, talking plooks, a limp Handshaking contest, comedy farting and some social commentary. Some stuff is very smart – the French/english sketch is clever on several levels, as is the “Syntax rape”.

the show wears its intelligence lightly. But this is good, solid, across-the-board sketch comedy, that I defy anyone not to chuckle at. the closing sketch is incredibly silly and funny. these are three very talented performers whose comedy dynamic adds a nice extra layer to the show. Its late-night slot probably isn’t doing it any favours, but if you fancy some post-pub comedy that won’t give even the milder minded punter cause to choke on her dry white, check out the MacGuffins.
