COMEDY GORING AND STOKES: NERDS OF A FEAThER JUsT THE TONIC AT THE CAVEs (VENUE 88) HHHHH

The Scotsman - - Fringereviews Hotshow -

THE NATURAL state of social interaction for nerds of a feather is to flock together, but Graham Goring and Chris stokes, though billed together, don’t really flock at all. The audience is treated to two individual stand-up performances hung on the hat peg of nerdness and geekdom which results in some sidesplitting moments.

stokes teeters on the verge of cool with his laconic, low-key delivery, but his observations are no less hilarious and he clearly enjoys the dramatic tension that’s part of winning over the audience. Goring takes over more than halfway through, looking much more the part with a genuine, geeky enthusiasm for the clever and witty PowerPoint production that is an integral part of his act.

Given the contrast in the two styles, on a good night it’s like two shows for the price of one, but it also poses the possibility that onstage interaction between their individual ways could send the laughometer sky-high.
