COMEDY TOM WRIGGLESWORTh’S NIGhTMARE DREAM WEDDING pLEAsANCE COUrTyArD (VENUE 33) HHHHH

The Scotsman - - Fringereviews Hotshow -

REPRIsING the success of last year’s award-nominated Open Return Letter To Richard Branson was always going to be a tall order for the likeable Tom Wrigglesworth, and here, the comic offers a tale that’s never quite believable or an obvious departure into outright fantasy. Indeed, I have to confess that the video conclusion left me slightly baffled, the pulling together of disparate plot strands failing to produce a coherent whole.

From his intriguing filmed opening, Wrigglesworth sets up an ambitious tale of his spontaneous jaunt to Las Vegas to get married, via the entertaining diversion of a day at the Jeremy Kyle Show.

Thereafter though, things start to feel increasingly contrived, and despite some touching interaction between the personable comedian and his fellow Kyle audience member May. But the narrative elements never make good on their initial promise and the home video quality of his recreations only serves to reinforce the show’s distancing artificiality.
