A PLAy about families waiting by the phone hoping that it doesn’t ring with news of a loved one’s death in Afghanistan, this is way better than that glib title suggests.
In fact, there are moments of genuine comedy from the Queen mary theatre Company, particularly from suzanna hurst and holly Williamson’s competitive mums and the excellent rachel Gammon. yet perhaps the stylistic device of anthropomorphising the phone and giving each character a number and a rather loosely drawn personality does detract from any sense of gravity the piece is stretching for.
