Nuanced Brexit
Recently I wrote to Mike Russell, the Scottish Brexit Minister, to ask for a definition of a ‘hard Brexit’, a term that is often bandied about as the only possible outcome to the
EU negotiations. According to him, hard Brexit is defined as “leaving the EU and the Single Market”. Given that we are leaving the EU, then by this definition every outcome is a hard Brexit.
Surely there has to be someone in that party who accepts that there is a spectrum of possible outcomes and that there is every chance that some may be good for the country?
His letter offers the only other possible SNP defined outcome – independence. A case ofindependencetranscending everything else?
