Greens back ‘citizens income’ for all Scots
Greens have stepped up calls for a “citizen’s income” to be paid to everyone in an effort to tackle the “stigma” of benefits.
Party co-leader Patrick Harvie said the plans are at the heart of their proposals to give everyone the right to live with dignity.
Mr Harvie, who is standing in Glasgow North said: “A Basic or Citizen’s Income is a long-standing Green policy which has been gathering momentum.
“Trials are planned in Fife and Glasgow and countries such as Finland are pilot- ing it. But I want to make sure that all of Scotland and the UK works towards building a welfare system that removes the stigma of benefits and helps promote equality.”
