Ukip ex-deputy leader has cancer

A one-time Ukip leadership contender has revealed she has cancer and will take time out of politics.

Suzanne Evans, the party’s former deputy leader, said she had undergone surgery for breast cancer just before the general election was called.

She revealed that she put her recovery on hold to write the Ukip manifesto and thanks doctors who treated her in London.
