General Electric titan steps down

US industrial giant General Electric (GE) yesterday announced that Jeff Immelt will retire as chairman and chief executive at the end of December 2017 after 16 years at the helm.

Immelt will be replaced by GE insider John Flannery, who was most recently in charge of the company’s healthcare arm.
