It was interestin­g to read in your Heritage section about the outdoor public pools built during the 1920s and 1930s in Scotland (The Scotsman, 12 June).

Portobello pool certainly looked to have been a “marvel”, and very popular with holiday-makers. The other item of note is that there is not one overweight person in the photo, it’s all streamline­d pilchards and not one beached whale – changed days!
