Emeli Sande to add her voice to charity single

A fresh batch of chart-toppers have arrived at a recording studio in the shadow of Grenfell Tower to add their star quality to a charity single.

X Factor winner Louisa Johnson and Aberdeenshire singer Emeli Sande, awarded an MBE last week for services to music, were among those spotted at Sarm music studios for the project.

Organiser Simon Cowell said he hoped the single, a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s hit Bridge Over Troubled Water, will raise millions to help those caught up in Wednesday’s blaze.

Johnson said: “The amount of people that have actually agreed to it and gone out of there way to do it is incredible, especially how busy some of these people are.

“I feel honoured to be a part of it so to be hear to today is 0 Emeli Sande is joining a host of other chart-toppers really important,” Johnson added.

The singer, whose hit with Clean Bandit, Tears, was in the top five last year, said the charity single was “beautiful”. “Everyone will love it. I’m really hoping that it does well.”

Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones also pitched up to “sing a few lines”.

He said the situation in Grenfell had sparked memories of a flood in his street when he was a child.
