Outdated law

The Scotsman - - Perspective / Letters To The Editor -

There is an ongoing peti- tion asking to abolish the still extant blasphemy law in Scotland. Edinburgh Secular Society was concerned to hear that when questioned, the Scottish Government had responded that, as no one has been charged with the crime for more than a century, it is irrelevant and there are no plans to abolish it.

However unlikely to be implemented in practice, this legislation continues to enshrine the notion that free speech stops when it comes to religious beliefs.
