Re: “Edinburgh Airport unveils plan for major new housing and business development” (Scotsman, 10 July), before embarking on grandiose new projects, Edinburgh Airport should improve their passenger facilities and the passenger experience. Like your correspondent of 7 July, Sandy Simpson, I recently travelled from the Airport and required special assistance. The staff providing it were excellent, helpful and cheery.

But what other airport requires the passenger to find their own way to a small crowded waiting room where disabled passengers have to wait and, if using a toilet, have to go back outside and fight their way through the crowds. Where else are passengers in wheelchairs kept waiting outside in the rain before boarding.

By contrast, returning from Copenhagen, assisting staff there meet the passenger at check-in, then take them to a spacious dedicated lounge. This has a disabled toilet, a restaurant adjacent, water, etc. After that the passenger is taken to the door of the plane. Instead of fleecing the passenger at all the money-making airport outlets, Edinburgh Airport should invest in better facilities for passenger assistance so that they might even enjoy the airport experience.
