Iconic Ecurie Ecosse vehicles join Ignition line-up
One of Scotland’s greatest motoring feats is to be celebrated at this year’s Ignition festival with a display of classic and modern Ecurie Ecosse cars.
In 1957 the Edinburgh-based team claimed a 1-2 finish in the gruelling Le Mans 24-hour race - a rare and spectacular achievement for a privateer team.
To mark 60 years since this achievement, current team director and driver Alasdair Mccaig will be at the Glasgow motoring festival with a range of cars from the team’s past and present as well as the iconic purpose-built transporter.
On display will be the last Jaguar C-type to run in the famous colours of Ecurie Ecosse back in the 1950s; the Ecosse-rover endurance racer from the 1980s; David Leslie’s BTCC Vauxhall Cavalier and the currentligier LMP3 being campaigned successfully by the team.
Cat Stanford, Ignition festival director, said: “For a small, private garage in Edinburgh to record a 1-2 finish in one of motorsport’s biggest races was nothing short of incredible and we’re thrilled to offer festival goers a chance to see the team’s classic machinery in all its glory this summer.”
Ignition runs from 4-6 August at the SEC in Glasgow and tickets are on sale now.
